Three Stags Heads
Wardlow Mires, Tideswell, Derbyshire, 01298 872268
Not really in Sheffield, by any stretch, but near enough for a regular crowd of students and grownups to travel out. Simply put, visiting the 3 Stags feels like going back 200 years! Follow the link to learn more about the character and the great beer (from Kelham Island in Sheffield). Personally, I love the fact I can take my black lurcher in, the great real food (note: you can get a quid off your beer if you take a rabbit in, 2 quid if it's skinned), plus the folk night on a Saturday (busy in the Summer, can be very quiet in Wintertime) is not to be missed. It's an informal singer's night, every man for hisself, and always a barrel of laughs.
Avoid this pub if you're stuck up or snooty, or if you're fiercely anti-hunting. Come if you're up for a great laugh and terrific beer. If you have a bit too much, you can always kip in the pig barn over the road.

Really good Ale - Pale Rider, Black Lurcher, Matins, Absolution. Home cooked fresh country food. Great rustic atmosphere. Folk music on Saturdays. Whippets everywhere. Whoever thought it was child friendly has different criteria to me though - open fires, no high chairs or chid meals. Older children perhaps.
